Sorry did that prepare you for a rant? No rant. I'm about to run out of several skincare products, so, I've
been
window shopping. I'm taking notes now. This is notes. I only buy new stuff once a year, maybe twice, if I'm
lucky, thrice? I've been buying the same two moisturizers for a moment now. They're fine. Ingredients
have
gotten cheaper, though. I think I can upgrade my cleansers (oil for make up, medicated for acne) and possibly
slip in an <$10 serum; if I run out of the cleansers at differen't times.
I've just been watching
youtube videos and reading ingredient break down websites and also wikipedia articles for chemicals. It's
really fun I love the sciency part of hygiene; #girl #girls in stem; I guess. Girl is a very consumerist
identity imo.
Whatever. Don't worry about it. I'm a girl because I like pink moisturizers that smell like roses and also
women and that's
fine. I'd rather that make me a woman than my genitals, AM I RIGHT LADIES?
Once I broke down the ingredients of 3 conditioners, across
several pages and tables, with their ingredient's restrictions in the EU, Canada, and the US as well as their
purposes
and potential failings. And THEN I bought a conditioner that fixed my weird hair texture in 4 showers.
I miss
her. I don't think she's for sale anymore.
Skin status, goals, want to tries:
I am burdened with fucking blackheads and hormonal cystic acne. Succeeding mildly with salicylic acid and shit
loads of
moisturizer. Currently using stridex pads for salicylic medication outside of a weak moisturizer or cleanser.
Hate those cunts, want to replace them with serum. Winter is drying me out hard, but summer will make me oily.
So I have to balance everything out. Interested in rose water for dry sensitivity and redness.
Goal 1: acne routine that kills off those cystic mfs before my patience on picking wears out
Goal 2: Even things out and prevent dry patches
Goal 3: Smell like a pretty flower about it
The soon to be dearly departed:
In order I expect them to empty and die.
The rest of the cast:
How do I feel about the soon to die?
Overall, fuck them. I've been in the <$15 skincare range since I started doing skincare. So, I've been dealing
with shit products for 12 years. But now. Now brands like The Ordinary exist. So... Dope. Some of the Korean
skincare products I was able to get when I had a disposable income are down to <$10 so I can justify buying
them again :-D
Which is to say, I never have to suffer Neutrogena's bullshit ever again. Unless I
want to. The cream cleanser has never been good to me but she has never made me worse. All of her fucking
sisters have. But she hasn't. Goat milk soap is, Just. I love her. I get dead skin build up really quick, I
have... a lot of things that amount to : My Skin Cells are Really Sticky. This is good and also bad.
Goat milk
soap has lactic acid in it in concentrations that may or may not be enough to matter when it comes to using it
to wash your skin. I like it and it doesn't irritate my skin it's a perfectly good surfectant cleanser. Balm
cleanser from e.l.f. is over-priced but fine, I don't love the smell.
Stridex pads are just painful
and drying
and they do help if I exclusively use them during a hormonal flare up, but they're too rough for my face skin.
Fucking amazing for back and thigh acne, and keratosis pilaris though—WHEN followed with a good lotion after
allowed to fully dry.
Cleanser Contenders:
Starting with oil/balm and micellar cleansers because I'm really excited about them.
Palmers Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Cleansing Oil
$9.99/6.5fl oz
pros: Cheap, Lots of it, nice oils, oils I want.
cons: Citronellol, Geraniol ; fragrances. It is a wash off, minimal con.
The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser
$9.00/1.7fl oz
pros: Squalane is nice I like her, I bet she'd make me feel fancy
cons: wash off squalane, expensive for such a small volume. Don't need nice ingredients in something I plan to
follow with surfectants.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water with Rose Water
$7.97/13.5fl oz
pros: I've used it, it works, I like using it. Cheaper than dirt.
cons: Wash off product 80% of the time, glycerine and salicylic acid don't do much in this formula.
Time for, surfectant cleansers. Preferrably medicated but, who knows.
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Hell-Pore Clean Up Enzyme Powder Wash
$14.20/2.82 oz
pros: powder washes last forever, exfoiliates with silica and papain (papaya proteinase I)
cons: sodium lauryl sulfate without a great moisturizing buffer—not a deal breaker fixed by toner +
moisturizer. Can't use Daily, too much exfoiliation.
Sulfur Soap
$6.50-$12/3.5oz
pros: sulfur works great for what I want from what I know, different formulas could have good moisturizing
ingredients.
cons: a lot of these solid bars are exclusively made of Saponified palm oil :-/ L + I love the boys
(orangutans) ; Oft fragranced with essential oil, big no no.
The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser
$11.99/5fl oz
pros: salicylic acid at the same concentration I'm already using in a nicer formula, can use daily.
cons: not very many, to be totally honest with you. Daily use would make leave on salicylic products twice
weekly rather than every other day.
Steps I Really Wanna Add:
Lets go in order here, starting with what you use after a cleanser. Fucking toners! I love toners. Wish most of them weren't bullshit, you know?
Heritage Store Rosewater
$10.49/8fl oz
Pros: 0 chance of irritation, pure hydration step, rose flower oil supposedly helps with chemical/dryness
induced redness on sensitive, eczematic skin.
cons: Not really bringing a whole lot to the table.
Elizavecca Hell Pore Clean Up AHA Fruit Toner
$7.84/6.7fl oz
pros: exfoiliant, niacinamide, vitamin B, and hyaluronic acid
cons: has both lactic and glycolic acid, may be too strong; has olive oil before jojoba oil, might be
comedonegenic on my skin.
Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner
$12.50/8.5fl oz
pros: antioxidant rich fruit extracts and hyaluronic acid
cons: denat. alcohol is the second ingredient, and it has plain alcohol further down ; citrus extracts make me
photosensitive. Might be balanced out with a moisturizer + sunscreen.
Serums serums serums serums. I want some. I've never owned one and I really want in on that eyedropper action. Idk.
The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5 Serum
$8.90/1fl oz
pros: hydration baybe, might help with my premature aging from smoking—mostly a hydration/texture thing, B5
should help with my sensitive skin.
cons: doesn't really do anything for my blackheads or oil problems.
The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution
$7.20/1fl oz
pros: resurfacing and also so much fucking Squalane. Would do so much for my skin hydration which might stop
my skins over production issues.
cons: high concentration of salicylic acid, might mean occasional use or cutting out other salicylic acid
products.
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum
$6.00/1fl oz
pros: meant for oil regulation and textural irregularities, my two worst enemies. cheapest serum so far.
cons: not very hydrating, necessitates cutting out (pure or ethylated) vitamin C
Elizavecca Witch Piggy Hell Pore Galactomyces Pure Ample
$11.99/1.7fl oz
pros: Galactomyces ferment filtrate help with skin texture, pigmentation and hydration. The active ingredient
is a byproduct so if I like it it's easy to afford.
cons: That's about all it does :-) Not bad, literally the other 3% of the serum is preservatives. It's just
the Galactomyces ferment filtrate.
Wishlist & Plan To Buys:
Elizavecca Aqua Hyaluronic Acid Water Drop Cream
$8.74/1.7fl oz
why: I used it before and I liked it a lot. It's gone down in price since then, too! Should be kind to my oily
summer skin.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Daily Moisturizer
$13.50/3.3 oz
why: she looks nice. she looks real nice. I wanna try her. Maybe one day.
The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane-Skin and Hair Hydrator
$10/1.0fl oz
why: I need hydration so bad. My skin is dry and my hair is dry and I drink so much fucking water so I've hit
the part where I want Squalane.
Vitamins and Sea Beauty Sea Kale & Hyaluronic Acid Complex
$11.99/2fl oz
why: hydration, niacinamide, vitamins!!
why not: lots of fragrance + linseed oil may be comedonegenic for my skin.
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Sun Block Great Stick
$8.83/0.78oz
why: solid stick sunblock seems like something I'd be chiller with than pasty mineral creams when I already
feel greasy and clogged.
CeraVe SA Bodywash
$13.99/10fl oz
why: I've got rough body skin I want a body wash that's really trying to help her out. One day. Eventually.
Hopefully. Fuck you keratosis pilaris.
cleen beauty Rosehip Jelly Face Cleanser
$7.99/6fl oz
why: It's pink :-) It's full of roses :-) It doesn't have a ton of proper actives so it would probably be very
kind to my sensitivities.
What's Next:
Don't expect this page to change or update until I actually buy new products, but more likely it will not
update until I run out of moisturizer and buy a new batch of that, because by then I'll probably have been using
a new cleanser for awhile. We'll see :-)
NOW LETS DO SOME FUN STATISTICS!
I reach low, ladies. I reach low. And you should, you don't need to spend $500 on your skincare routine. You
need to spend... well how much do you need to spend on the products I've listed, for a whole routine? Most
expensive edition, please, Phie :3
Okay so the most expensive and still sensicle routine built out of
products I've listed on this page.
Total: $109.75
That's not bad :-) Could be worse. Isn't actually that bad because I, and I hope anyone reading this, am not going to throw out and repurchase their entire skincare routine all at once.
